Explain the Technology A digital camera is a type of camera that allows the photographer to view the pictures they have taken via a small screen situated on the back of the camera. They take videos and still photographs digitally via an electronic image sensor which converts the images to what the human eye can see. Digital Cameras originated from the olden day film or LSR cameras and are just a more complex piece of technology. They also differ in that instead of doing all the zooming and finding the right shutter speed manually the digital camera does it all for you automatically. This makes digital camera’s much more compact and easier to carry around and slip into your pocket.
Compare Two Examples Two digital cameras that I am going to be comparing are the Lumix Rugged Compact Digital Camera and the Fujifilm Finepix Digital Camera. Both cameras’ are similar in size and weight with the Fujifilm being slightly lighter and smaller than the Lumix. This makes them both easy to carry around but at the same time they both take high quality pictures.
Camera 1 – Lumix Digital Camera The Lumix digital camera comes in many different colours including orange. It has a 4.6 optical zoom, which compared to the Fujifilm is a little less. It takes shots that are 12 mega pixels from a 28mm wide angle lens. It has a 27 inch LCD screen found on the back of the camera. The features of this camera are extensive. The main feature is that the camera can go underwater up to 3m. It is also shock proof to 1.5m, dustproof and it is also a high definition digital camera. All these features make it a very handy camera as you can take it to the beach or to a pool and get some great shots in the pool without worrying about it getting wet. This also makes it a good camera for younger people as it is very sturdy. The camera has a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty that comes with the camera for no extra charge. The price of the lumix is four hundred and ninety nine dollars and that includes a memory card, a charger, cables to connect the camera to a computer or T.V, an instruction manual and a few other things.

Its lens is outstanding ranging from 28mm to 140mm which is a very large range compared to the Lumix. It has a 3 inch LCD screen which is slightly bigger than the Lumix lens. It’s features are definitely not as extensive as the Lumix with no underwater use unless a water case is bought. It does have some features though, that include automatically recognising a scene and putting it in the right setting to get the best photo and being able to preview up to 100 shots at any one time on the LCD screen. This camera is a great camera for using around dry areas and has an amazing zoom. It would be ideal for older people that only want to carry around a small camera but still want an impressive photo. The camera comes with a 12 month Fujifilm Australia warranty for no extra charge. The price of the Fujifilm is two hundred and ninety nine dollars and as with the lumix that includes a memory card, a charger, cables to connect the camera to a computer or T.V, an instruction manual and other things.
Describe what hardware/software is required Cameras in general are pieces of technology that don’t have much software or hardware attached to them. This makes them a very easy to use piece of technology that are fairly inexpensive to run. There are additional pieces of software that can be purchased along with the camera such as special photo printers, underwater cases, extra memory cards, computer programs to help look at photos and other things but these are only extra’s and are not needed for the general running of the camera. Some things that might need to be purchased depending on what the camera comes with are cords to attach the camera to computers or T.V’s and special batteries but everything else should come with the camera.
Compare costs and reliability When comparing costs it is important to remember that one camera is waterproof and one isn’t which accounts for a lot in the cost sector. Keeping this in mind the lumix, which is the waterproof camera, costs four hundred and ninety nine dollars compared with the cheaper Fujifilm camera which costs two hundred and ninety nine. Both cameras are reliable as each other and as both have a year warranty included in the cost if anything did happen to them they would be covered under the warranty. I think that depending on what kind of camera you are looking for the lumix is the better deal. Even though it is the more expensive camera it has better features and the underwater side of it is very handy and can save many accidents. It also takes as a good as photos as the Fujifilm even if they aren’t zoomed in as far. Both camera’s are still of very good quality and pricing though and would both be a good buy.
